Like all great stories, this one starts small. In 2011, a group of friends (Nate Lanier, Dean Rohan, Damien Goudreau, and Jonathan Weisbach) were homebrewing in a small Brimfield, Massachusetts barn. The property just so happened to have a tree house, and a dream was born.

They weren't trying to start a revolution. They were just obsessed with one simple idea: what if an IPA could be different? What if, instead of sharp, piney bitterness, a beer could be soft, pillowy, and overwhelmingly juicy?

The "Juice" That Changed Everything

Their answer was 'Julius'.

When Julius first appeared, the craft world didn't know what to make of it. It was hazy. It was soft from flaked oats. It exploded with notes of fresh-squeezed orange, mango, and passionfruit, with almost no bitterness. It was so bright and fruity that other brewers whispered they must be adding orange juice to the kegs.

They weren't. They had simply unlocked a new way of using hops, and in doing so, they had given birth to a legend.

The Move, The Lines, The Legend

The secret got out. Fast. Their tiny barn was overwhelmed, so in 2013, they moved to a larger (but still small) facility in Monson, Massachusetts.

And that's when the lines started.

This is a core part of the Tree House legend. The beer was so good, and the supply so limited, that people would drive for hours and wait in line for hours more, in snow or sun, just to buy a few precious cans. It became a ritual, a community, a pilgrimage.

Why the scarcity? Because Tree House made a decision that would change the industry: no distribution. They would not sell to stores. They would not sell to bars. If you wanted their beer, you had to come to them. This "Tree House Model" ensured every single can was sold fresh, direct from the source, preserving the quality they had worked so hard to create.

The Modern-Day Destination

In 2017, they opened their now-iconic brewery in Charlton—a sprawling, 70-acre destination with a taproom, retail store, and an atmosphere that feels more like a nature retreat. Today, they've expanded to other locations, but that core philosophy remains. They are the largest direct-to-consumer brewery on Earth.

They are still driven by a "child-like wonder" and a refusal to be satisfied. They just want to make reliably delightful beer that contributes to life's best moments.
